You know what's a series I'd love to see? Some sort of advanced future (on earth or in space) where religious groups are the minority and are persecuted viciously by an atheist government body as 'dangerous cults'. So we could follow a character who holds onto a more orthodox faith and their struggle in a world that is intolerant of them, as well as keeping said faith in a higher power.

And no, I don't mean this as like some political message that, really, would only harm a series. But I've noticed that in terms of the whole OPPRESIVE GOVERNMENT concept, there are really only two major types you see: A fanatic theocracy intolerant of any other religious beliefs, or lack there of (Which honestly has become SUCH a trope.) And the hyper analytical government that cuts corners and denies human rights all in the name of order and efficiency. And yet with that last one, we rarely see that applied to religious freedom; because they're in a dystopian society where any sort of religious text is lost, or in an advanced future where people don't believe, or the government just doesn't bother those groups because they fall out of the parameters of what they deem necessary to control.

But what if we do have a story where the idea of a religion, or to be more accurate, in the belief of a higher power of the supernatural, is deemed a threat by the ruling power? Something that demands harsh punishment like thought reform if not outright execution. I've honestly never seen anything like that in any medium. I think it'd make for many interesting possibilities.
But what do you guys think? Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas?

I really like dystopian stories, and reading them, I couldn't help but notice the same things. Coincidentally, I decided to create my own story instead of waiting for someone else to do it for me. I've been working on the concept for almost two years now.

It's going to be technically, an "American graphic novel with manga influences". Well, it will be when I improve my art enough to create it. Until then, I'm working on the story.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one interested in reading and/or creating that kind of story. Like you said, not so much in a political way but in a spiritual way. Christianity is being persecuted around the world in real life, so using that very real struggle in a story I think has the potential to be empowering and inspirational. Perhaps even eye opening as well.
